Tyre Safety Month

This October is Tyre Safety Month, a campaign from Tyre Safe designed to raise the awareness of tyre safety.

Formula One Autocentres are committed to ensuring that the tyres you drive on are roadworthy and legal, which is why we are offering free tyre checks at all branches throughout October to help ensure that your tyres are up to standard.

According to a survey by Tyre Safe, over 80,000 accidents reported on Britain's roads are due to unsafe tyres*. It is crucial that you get your tyres checked frequently to ensure that you do not become an addition to this harrowing statistic. The results showed that more than a quarter of motorists were replacing their tyres when they were already illegal. As well as being dangerous for you personally, this also puts you at risk legally, as being caught on illegal tyres can result in three points on your licence and a hefty fine of up to £2,500 per tyre**!

It is recommended that you should have your tyre pressures, tread depth and general tyre condition checked every three weeks to ensure that your tyres are safe to drive on. If you are driving on tyres that have insubstantial tread depth - lower than the legal minimum of 1.6mm, your braking distances are dramatically increased and your grip is reduced significantly. Driving on tyres with incorrect pressures is equally dangerous as this can lead to a tyre blowout whilst driving.

To help raise awareness of tyre safety and to ensure that all of our customers feel confident that they are driving on legal tyres, Formula One Autocentres will be offering free tyre checks throughout October. During these checks, our team of specialists will inspect for visual damage, check your tread depth and tyre pressures and ensure that your wheels are correctly aligned.
