Looking to embark on a road trip? Or simply like the escapism, adventure and journey a good road trip movie brings? We have listed our top road trip movies for anyone to enjoy. 

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Featuring an all-star cast, this movie follows the dysfunctional Hoover family as they take-off on an 800mile cross-county road trip in a VW bus, to drive the youngest child to the finals of a beauty pageant she’s competing in. A great mix of comedy and drama.  

Rain Man (1988)

This Oscar-winning movie features Tom Cruise looking to cash-in on his recently discovered brother’s (Dustin Hoffman) inheritance from their father. Dustin Hoffman plays a character who suffers from savant syndrome, as the two set off on a cross-country road trip which leads to a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.  

National Lampoons Vacation (1983)

This well-loved family movie follows the hilarious attempts of the Griswolds, looking to spend more quality time together as a family. As they embark on a journey from Chicago to an amusement park in California, anything and everything goes wrong. From a crash to vandals and dirty campgrounds – a hilarious adventure awaits.  

Thelma & Louise (1991)

This iconic movie follows an oppressed housewife and her outspoken waitress friend as they embark on an adventure from Arkansas to Mexico. Escaping societal expectations, the police and their old lives. A true classic.   

Are We There Yet? (2005)

A family friendly movie that follows the main character on a quest to reunite his new partner’s two overprotective children back with her. After missing the plane, they must take the journey by car, and that brings with it hilarious twists, turns and sabotage – making it the memorable road trip of a lifetime.
