Should I buy a hybrid car?

Wednesday 24th November 2021

Hybrid cars have become increasingly popular over recent years, this is due to their fuel efficient and environmental friendly nature. However, hybrid cars aren’t necessarily for everyone and, in some cases, they can cost you more money in the long run if not properly maintained. Find out if hybrid cars are the right purchase for you from our helpful guide.

Are hybrid cars worth it?

It’s common for many people to question whether hybrid cars are worth their cost, and whether they have as many benefits to the environment as they claim. However, there are many benefits in switching to a hybrid car, here are just a few:

  • Greater fuel economy: one of main perks of going hybrid is their efficient fuel usage – as hybrids contain both an internal combustion engine and am electric motor. In fact, hybrids tend to use 30% less fuel per mile than conventional cars. If you live in a city and often drive less than 30 miles each trip, owning a hybrid will most likely be beneficial to you. However, if you tend to drive longer distances at higher speeds, a hybrid car is not the cheapest idea, and it is better to own a clean diesel car.
  • Reliability: the electric motors in hybrid cars mean that there is less stress on your car engine. On top of this, most hybrid cars charge through regenerative breaking and, therefore, puts less pressure on your standard breaks. These perks are helpful in the long run, as it most likely means your car will need less servicing in the future.
  • Less tax: hybrid cars registered before 2017 are eligible for free road tax if they emit less than 100/km CO2. However, the new tax rules state that hybrid cars are no longer exempt from road tax and, instead, are eligible for reductions on the amount of tax they pay.
  • Hybrids hold value: due to their low running costs and high levels of reliability, hybrid cars are high in demand on the used car market.

Automatic hybrid cars: many hybrids contain automatic gears, this allows the electric motor to run seamlessly and also provides a smoother driving experience. Many people are now switching to hybrid vehicles to limit their carbon front print, and also to reduce costs on fuel consumption.

What people are saying about us...

  • Very satisfied. They did try to make me have anything none that wasn’t needed

    - Claire, Chatham - Mar 9, 2024
  • Friendly Team with a lot of energy. My car was ready in no time at all after fitting new tyres and brake pads.

    - Fisser, Westwood Cross - Mar 22, 2024
  • The staff were very kind and helpful - my vehicle was ready in great time, however it then needed further work which had been recommended from the MOT and service. The staff very kindly explained that I would be able to spread the cost over 4 months interest free, which was a great relief. My vehicle then remained at the garage for the work to be done, however the following day when my vehicle was ready I had become unwell and could not collect it at that day, and the staff very kindly understood and were happy for me to collect it the following day when I felt slightly better. Great service all round.
