What is a full service?
A full service, also known as a master service, is a more comprehensive version of a short service – including all the same tests, but with checks on additional components, too. Here at Formula One Autocentres, our Full Service includes a 40-point check compared to the 20-point Interim Service – making a full car service the most detailed check. When teamed with your MOT test too, this is the ultimate way of ensuring car safety and maintenance.
What does a full car service include?
Compared to an Interim service, otherwise known as an short service, the full car service includes comprehensive checks such as wheel cylinders, callipers, power steering and gaiters. This test begins with a road test in order to assess steering, clutch and brakes.
The checklist for a full car service is as follows:
- Road test – tests steering, clutch and brakes
- Vehicle on floor – checks exterior lights, seat belts, wipers and more
- Vehicle on ramp – checks wheel bearings, tyre sizes, condition, tread depth and more
- Service tasks – replacement of oils, air filters, checking brake fluids and more
- Scheduled service tasks – checks spark plugs, pollen filter replacement internal and more

Which service does my vehicle need?
Now you’ve learnt what a full service is, it’s now important to assess which service your vehicle needs. Typically, you should follow these rules when it comes to deciding which car service to have:
- Interim Service
An Interim service, or short service, should be completed every 6,000 miles that your vehicle does, or every 6 months - whichever is sooner.
- Full Service
A Full service, or Master service, is recommended to be completed every 12,000 miles that your vehicle does, or every 12 months – again, whichever is sooner.
