During this unexpected year, it’s likely that your vehicle may not have been performing the same number of miles that it is used to. Whether you’ve been limiting your contact by not using your vehicle as much, or you’re simply looking for a vehicle maintenance checklist you can do at home, our guide today has you covered. Review our motoring maintenance checklist to make sure your vehicle is working effectively, and adhering to safety guidelines.

Vehicle maintenance checklist

Tyres

Fluids

  • Oil – ensure your oil level is topped up significantly. Learn which engine oil you need for your vehicle today.
  • Water – also ensure that your water level is topped up to a significant level, as well as your wiper fluid.

Battery

One of the most common car components to be affected by lack of use is your car’s battery. In order to keep it charged, start your engine for 15 minutes once a week – as this will prevent any potential flooding of the fuel with petrol cars. Find out the signs of a dead car battery and how to charge a car battery now.

Brakes

If a vehicle has been parked up for a long time, the brakes may seize up. In order to prevent this, start the engine and move the car a short distance back and forth a few times. Learn more about brake maintenance, such as why your brakes might be squeaking and how to tell if you need new brakes.

Wiper blades

Ensure that you are able to see clearly out of your windscreen, and that your wipers clear the windscreen effectively. This is vital for vehicle maintenance, and it’s also an element which is checked during your MOT test. Learn more about if your wiper blades need replacing.

Air conditioning

Make sure that your air conditioning is working correctly by turning it on around your vehicle for a few minutes every so often. If you think your air conditioning is not working effectively, we offer air conditioning recharge at any of our Formula One Autocentres.

Now you’ve familiarised yourself with our car maintenance checklist, you can perform any of these checks on your vehicle at home. However, if you’d prefer more expert hands, book your vehicle in for a car service now at any of our centres. Get in touch with us today to find out more.
