How long does it take to service a car?
Typically, a full service (or master service) will take around 3 – 4 hours to complete. An interim (Short) service is often half the time – usually around an hour and a half. However, it’s important to note that the length of the service being conducted on your vehicle will often depend on whether or not any problems are identified.
Here at Formula One Autocentres, there are two types of car service available:
- Interim service – also known as a Short service, this type of service should be conducted every 6 months, or every 6,000 miles – whichever is sooner.
- Full service – also known as an Interim service, this type of service should be conducted every 12 months, or every 12,000 miles – whichever is sooner.
Learn what’s included in a car service from our detailed guide, which covers both Interim services and Full service checklists in detail, or visit our car servicing page for more information.

How long does an MOT and service take?
While a Full service (or Master service) will usually take around 3 hours to complete, an MOT test is usually a lot shorter – taking only around 45 minutes - 1 hour to complete. If you were to have your MOT and service at the same time, which is often recommended, this should take approximately 4 hours in total. Find out more information on how long an MOT test takes.
