How to replace windscreen wipers:

Step 1

Firstly, it is important to check your car owner’s manual in order to ensure that you have the right replacement blades for the job. Once you have acquired the right windshield wiper blades, you can begin to remove your windscreen wipers.

Step 2

Allow your new windscreen wipers a chance to shine. By cleaning your windscreen beforehand, you can remove dirt and debris with a sponge.

Step 3

If your wiper blade unexpectedly bounces back, this could lead to damage on your windscreen. By placing a towel underneath your windshield wipers, you are ensuring protection from chips and cracks.

Step 4

To remove your old blades, you will need to lift them – your windshield blades will usually come with a fastening mechanism, which will allow for easier removal. After this, you can remove your windshield blade. On some cars, you will have to slide the blade down to unfasten it. In other vehicles, you will need to remove the clip holding the blade in place. If you are unsure, you can check your vehicle handbook.

Step 5

You will attach your new windscreen blades with the same method you used to remove them. Be careful not to use extreme force as this can risk cracking your windscreen. On some cars, the windscreen wipers may be different lengths - so be sure to check your vehicle handbook to ensure that you are fitting your windscreen wipers in the correct position.

After your new windscreen wipers are secure, you can then carefully remove the towel placed underneath your windscreen wipers. It also handy to give them a test swipe, to make sure all is working fine.

Replacing your windscreen wipers shouldn’t be too hard of a process and can be easily done in your driveway. Wipers are also a component which is checked within your interim or full car service – including observing the wipers’ condition and operation – so if you’re not sure if they need replacing, one of our trained experts can help.
