What is a car service?
Friday 9th October 2020
A car service is a health check of your vehicle which involves routine maintenance. This can be everything from inspecting your tyres and brake lights to your engine’s fluid levels. This service is usually undertaken by a mechanic, and, depending on what type of service you choose, this can be either every 6 months or once a year.
Ensuring your vehicle is regularly serviced will help it to run as efficiently as possible. Learn more about why you should service your car, and how servicing your vehicle can actually save you money in the long run.
What service does my car need?
When it comes to booking in for your vehicle’s service, often there’s a few options to choose from – which look at different components and elements of the vehicle. There will usually be an option which deals with more of the basic elements, compared to a more comprehensive option which inspects a more extensive list of components on the vehicle.
Here at Formula One Autocentres, the two car servicing options we have available are:
- Full Service – also known as a Master Service, this type of service typically happens every 12 months, or every 12,000 miles – whichever comes sooner.
- Interim Service – also known as an short Service, this service is recommended every 6 months, or every 6,000 miles your vehicle does – again, whichever is sooner.

What does a car service include?
What’s included in your car service will largely depend on which service you have chosen. Typically, a service check will inspect engine oil and fluids, undertake a full brake check, inspect your lights, seatbelts, wipers as well as many more components. Our Full Service includes a 40-point check, whereas our Interim Service includes a 20-point check. Find out more about what a car service includes from our detailed guide.
