Why can car services differ in price?
Monday 22nd November 2021
It’s time for your routinely car service… perhaps you’ve received a reminder from your previous garage, or you’re noticing a few grumbles and groans that could need looking into. Either way, ensuring you have your vehicle serviced is important not only for car maintenance, but for your safety and the performance of your vehicle.
So, why can car services vary in cost? It’s likely garages and dealerships may not be able to commit to a price until your car service has been conducted – but why is that? Our guide highlights the different costs of servicing, and why, sometimes, you may end up paying more than other services.
How much do car services cost?
Firstly, the main consideration that will affect the price of your car service is deciding which service is the right choice for you. Here at Formula One Autocentres, we offer two types of car service:
- Interim car service – usually conducted every 6 months, or every 6,000 miles, the initial cost of this type of service ranges from around £80 - £145 – depending on what size your engine is.
- Full car service – typically conducted every 12 months, or every 12,000 miles, the initial cost of this type of service ranges from around £145 - £205 – depending on the size of your engine.
Once you’ve decided on the specific car service you require, you’ll then have a better estimation of how much your car service will cost overall.
The next consideration is what make and model your vehicle is – as this will determine what is checked during the car service. Different makes and models of cars will be all checked for different components, which can then in turn affect the overall cost of the service.
What determines additional cost for a car service?
However, there are elements of car services which can alter the cost – but these are likely to crop up throughout the car service. Some of the components that might lead to extra cost in a car service can include:
- Engine oil
